Inspired by the system of lakes that span across the surrounding community, the school’s classroom corridors are evocative of the nearby meandering Lake Linganore. Corridors and circulation spaces are activated and become part of the learning environment by using found space to create open collaboration areas. These spaces are semi-defined by changes in flooring material or color and are furnished with flexible soft seating and group activity tables. Touches of blue, gray, and green, emblematic of a Great Blue Heron, are incorporated throughout the building.
Nestled in the existing hillside, the two-story classroom wing connects to the administration wing by a bridge. Large windows throughout allow for maximum daylighting, create an open feel, and enhance the indoor/outdoor connection.
