The renovation and expansion of the CC Jackson Community Recreation Center transformed an outdated and underutilized facility into a vibrant community destination.

Original constructed in 1975, the existing building required significant upgrades to meet today’s standards and to match the criteria established for a model recreation center with the Baltimore City Recreation Center Task Force Report that guided design.  A large addition houses a new gymnasium, while a new entrance addition establishes a more visible and welcoming entry for the community.

The center is located in an urban park setting and is part of a larger park developed by Baltimore City that includes walking paths, playing fields, and a playground.  Integrating the building with its surroundings, the expanded complex includes large expanses of glass curtainwall to allow building users to overlook the newly developed recreational fields and playgrounds, while inviting park users to view the activities inside.  The playful colors and mullion pattern of the glass facade reflect the movement and motion of those using the facility.
