Housed in the city’s old Town Hall and Market building, the Fredericksburg Area Museum & Cultural Center felt a deep responsibility to continue to protect and preserve the character, scale, and fabric of Fredericksburg’s historic core when they acquired the 1928 baroque-style bank and adjacent c1890s commercial building across the street.

Sensitive renovations retained the character-defining features of the properties, realigned floor levels between the buildings and brought both buildings into compliance with current codes. Restored and celebrated in the design, the grand spaces of the bank today serve the museum’s exhibition and educational needs, while still showcasing and allowing for appreciation of their banking history.
